Questions About Church

Search the scriptures;
for in them ye think ye have
eternal life: and they are they
which testify of me.

John 5:39

I'm working on a novel about a young man's pursuit of God and in doing so, I've been digging deeper into the scriptures about church. I'm always amazed to see what surfaces when I go beyond mere reading, and topically study the Bible.

I'm strengthened by the rereading of truth, but on occasion, I'm challenged by what I read. Something sticks out to me that hadn't seen before and my old beliefs are confronted. This is healthy and a sign of growth! Truth has always been there, but up to that moment, I wasn't able to see it. Revelational moments like these are often times life changing!

So, ready for a church quiz? I threw this quiz together based upon this recent studying into questions about church. Some answers will come easily, others might involve opening your concordance. In either case, I hope you enjoy this little 10-question church trivia brain teaser that might not be so trivial!

For this church quiz, please use your Bible as a textbook and be able to back up your answer with specific Bible verses. Then if you want, post your answers in the comments section. Here we go!

1. How many books are there in the New Testament?

 2. When does the New Testament actually begin?

3. How often did Jesus command his disciples to start churches?

4. According to the Book of Acts, was baptism a suggestion or a command?

 5. How many times is pastor or pastors mentioned in the New Testament?

 6. How many people does it take to make a church?

7. How often did the apostles teach on tithing?

 8. What verse(s) gives us the authority to add to the scriptures?

 9. How many years of Bible school are required before one can become ordained?

10. Who is the head of the church?

Got them answered? Great! I'll give my answers to these questions about church on the next post and we can compare notes. Remember, the scriptures are the only true and accurate reference material. Other books, commentaries or opinions from well respected theologians aren't the same as the holy Word of God and won't count.

These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. (
Acts 17:11)

. How many books are there in the New Testament?
27

2. When does the New Testament actually begin?
In eternal life, before time ever existed.
John 1 to 3

3. How often did Jesus command his disciples to start churches?
Irrelevant

4. According to the Book of Acts, was baptism a suggestion or a command?

A command.

5. How many times is pastor or pastors mentioned in the New Testament?
Only in relation to the great Sheppard.

6. How many people does it take to make a church?
2 or 3 gathered in His name, and all the way to the whole of God's calculation, which only He knows......

7. How often did the apostles teach on tithing?

Irrelevant because in the New-Testament, we are taken in the Kingdom to give our all; not some of who we each are and some of what we have but all of our heart, mind, soul and strength.
Tithing is only good to those who think that they can negotiate with God, the way Ananias and Saphira did: Acts 5,1-11.

8. What verse(s) gives us the authority to add to the scriptures?

What Authority gives scriptures authority?...is the first question to be asked...

9. How many years of Bible school are required before one can become ordained?

Bible schools exist because of the deafness and/or of the rebellion to the voice of God, which keeps us ignorant of what we already know, as John says:

18 Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the[c] Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour. 19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us.
20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things.[d] 21 I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and that no lie is of the truth.
22 Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son. 23 Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father either; he who acknowledges the Son has the Father also.
Let Truth Abide in You

24 Therefore let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father. 25 And this is the promise that He has promised us—eternal life.
26 These things I have written to you concerning those who try to deceive you. 27 But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.

10. Who is the head of the church?

13 He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, 14 in whom we have redemption through His blood,[c] the forgiveness of sins.
15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. 18 And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.

New Testament began when someone other than God added such to divide the scriptures from scriptures.
